Cuban national team (Can-Am Association)

From BR Bullpen

The Cuban national team was the name given to a team made up of players from Cuba's Serie Nacional that toured North America in the summer of 2016 and played a schedule of games against teams in the independent Can-Am Association. Those games counted in the league standings. In 20 games, the Cuban players went 11-9, which would have placed them 4th, ahead of the eventual league champs, the Ottawa Champions, had they played a full season.

While the team was dubbed the "Cuban national team", its members were not all regular members of that outfit, but simply regulars from the Cuban league. Its most prominent members included Yosvani Alarcon, Freddy Asiel Alvarez, Luis Borroto, Vladimir Banos, Lazaro Blanco, Miguel Lahera and Livan Moinelo, all of whom had played for the national squad previously. The youngest player on the team, OF Luis Robert, defected a few months later and signed a huge professional contract.

The Cubans returned in 2017 under similar circumstances, but had a much less successful tour. In 2018, their slot in the league was taken over by the Salina Stockade.
