Biographical Information[edit]

Dillon Haviland was 10-0 with a 0.51 ERA as a high school senior, whiffing 102 in 56 innings and throwing four one-hitters. He also hit .451. The Pittsburgh Pirates took him in the 48th round of the 2010 amateur draft, but he was expected to go to Duke University on a scholarship instead (and did so). Haviland was one of only two players picked from the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League in 2010, after Patrick Leyland. A few WPIAL alumni were picked out of college such as Tom Shirley, Adam Liberatore and Joe Leonard. As a freshman at Duke, Haviland was 2-3 with a 5.05 ERA in 2011.
