Biographical Information

Dick Lange pitched four years for the California Angels.

He was two years younger than Nolan Ryan, who was his teammate all four years with the Angels.

Lange was born in Harbor Beach, MI and went to Central Michigan University from 1968-1970. He was drafted by the Angels in the 7th round of the 1970 amateur draft and immediately went 13-0 in the rookie league with the Idaho Falls Angels that summer. After part of a season in 1971 with the Shreveport Captains, he came up to the Salt Lake City Angels, where he would spent part or all of each season from 1971 to 1973 and 1975 to 1977. In his years with Salt Lake City, he went 43-33.

Dick came up to the majors in September of 1972, shortly after he turned 24. He appeared in 2 games and the next season, 1973, he was in 17 games with the Angels. In 1974 he had perhaps his best major league season, appearing in 21 games of which 18 were starts, and posting an ERA of 3.80. In 1975 he had his most appearances with 30, of which 8 were starts.

A biography at the Midland County Sports Hall of Fame says that Dick was a three-sport athlete at Bullock Creek High School and went 20-4 as a pitcher at Central Michigan University.

There is a baseball "sticker" of him with the Caracas Leones in the 1972-73 Venezuelan Winter League.
