Biographical Information[edit]
Dick Bouknight was a minor league catcher from 1938 to 1951. He barely ever struck out. In 1942, he struck out 8 times in 479 at-bats, in 1946 he struck out 4 times in 346 at-bats, in 1947 he struck out 7 times in 408 at-bats, in 1948 he struck out 3 times in 463 at-bats, and in 1949 he struck out 3 times in 351 at-bats.
In 1940, with the Johnson City Cardinals in the Appalachian League, he hit .376 with 11 homers and 38 doubles, and was named the loop's MVP.
In 1952 and 1953, he played with the Chuckey club in the semi-pro Pioneer League, in Tennessee.
He was nicknamed Shorty.
