Biographical Information[edit]
Devin Shines began his pro career in 2011. His father is former major leaguer Razor Shines and his mother Leann played college softball.
Devin was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 41st round of the 2007 amateur draft, one pick after fellow high schooler and son-of-a-major-leaguer Matt Scioscia. Like Scioscia, he opted for college. Devin hit .321 with 10 homers as a freshman at San Jacinto College then improved to .355 as a sophomore, though his home run total fell to 6. He transferred to Oklahoma State but missed 2010 with injury. In 2011, he hit .270/.369/.405 for Oklahoma State. The Los Angeles Dodgers chose Shines in the 38th round of the 2011 amateur draft; the scout was Calvin Jones.
Devin had a fine first summer as a pro, batting .318/.398/.460 with 45 runs in 52 games for the AZL Dodgers and going 2 for 5 with a double and a walk for the Ogden Raptors. The center fielder was second to Yoan Alcantara in the Arizona League in runs, tied for 7th in walks (24) and tied for 5th in hits (67). His 118 putouts tied Socrates Brito for the lead among AZL outfielders.
