Biographical Information[edit]

Submariner Deok-chil Kim pitched in the CPBL and the TML.

Kim was drafted by the OB Bears in the third round of the 1993 KBO draft, but he refused to sign, and he decided to pitch for the amateur team Korea Electric Power Corporation. The Wei Chuan Dragons signed him in 1999, and he was 4-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 16 appearances for them. In the 1999 Taiwan Series, Kim pitched a shutout inning in Game 1, then he was named the starter of Game 3. He pitched 6 1/3 innings with 7 strikeouts, only allowed 2 runs and got the win over Chien-Fu Kuo Lee. The Dragons beat the Chinatrust Whales in 5 games, and Kim was named an Outstanding Player of the series, as was Chi-Hsien Ho; the award is a step behind MVP, which went to Chiung-Lung Huang. Moving to the Kaoping Fala in 2000, Kim was 9-6 with a 4.17 ERA and he also attended the All-Star Game. He then announced his retirement after the 2000 season.

Kim's repertoire included a fastball (peak 77 mph), sinker and curveball.
