Biographical Information[edit]

Delio Martínez pitched for Mariara in the 2002 Venezuelan Summer League. [1] He played in Spain in 2009, going 7-6 with a 2.20 ERA for CB Viladecans. He was 7th in the Division de Honor in ERA (between Leslie Nacar and Jose Cruz), 9th in opponent average (.229, between Ronny Malave and Juan Jose Lopez), second in IP (135, 15 1/3 behind Oscar Alvarez), 7th in K (99, between Cruz and Fidel Torres), tied Lopez for 7th in wins, tied for 4th in appearances (17), tied for 2nd in starts (17, one behind Alvarez) and tied for 5th in losses. [2]

In 2010, he had a 9-1, 2.21 record for FC Barcelona with 106 K in 97 2/3 IP, one save and a .187 opponent average. He was among Spain's leaders in opponent average (9th, between Cruz and Iván Granados), innings (10th), strikeouts (tied Torres for 8th) and wins (tied for 6th). [3] In the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, he pitched for the Venezuelan national team, getting the win over Panama and Luis González. He allowed three unearned runs and no earned runs in 7 2/3 IP for the Games, with six hits, two walks (one intentional) and four strikeouts over two outings. He did not lead the Games in ERA as teammate Josmar Carreño was at 0.00 in 9 2/3 IP. Despite some fine pitchers like that, Venezuela finished 6th. [4]

Back with Venezuela for the 2015 Premier 12, the veteran pitched 2/3 of an inning against both Mexico and South Korea; in the latter outing, he allowed a walk and hit batsmen, leading to two runs despite no hits surrendered by him. [5] He allowed 3 runs in 3 2/3 IP for the 2016-2017 Caribes de Anzoátegui.
