Biographical Information[edit]

David Villegas pitched in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

He was 1-1 with a 8.06 ERA and 2.37 WHIP in 22 games as a rookie for the 2012 Olmecas de Tabasco. That winter, he fared better, allowing two runs in 6 1/3 IP for the Venados de Mazatlán. In 2013, he was 0-4 with 5 saves and a 3.68 ERA for the AZL Cubs, his lone season in the Chicago Cubs chain. He tied for 6th in the Arizona League in saves. In winter ball, he allowed six runs in 1 2/3 IP for the Venados.

Villegas was 0-2 with a 3.93 ERA for Tabasco in 2014. He pitched for Mexico in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, allowing five hits and three runs in 2 2/3 IP; only Óscar Félix had a higher ERA for their team. He ended his career at age 22, allowing one unearned run in 2/3 of an inning for his hometown Cañeros de Los Mochis.
