Biographical Information[edit]

David Shermet played in the minors and was a college coach.

He was on the Arizona team that won the 1986 College World Series. [1] He set a school record with 34 career homers (later broken) and was still among the top 10 in games played, runs, homers and walks (second to Chip Hale) as of 2022. [2] The Houston Astros took him in the 12th round of the 1988 amateur draft, four picks before Scott Hatteberg. He hit .248/.379/.341 with 44 walks in 63 games for the '88 Auburn Astros, stealing 15 bases in 18 tries. He was 5th in the New York-Penn League in walks.

Moving up to the Asheville Tourists in 1989, he batted .220/.348/.310 with 54 walks and 18 stolen bases in 27 attempts. He had 11 assists in 65 games in the outfield and also played first and third. He later was assistant coach at Irvine Valley College (2017-2019) then became the first head coach of Westcliff University, a position he held until the 2024 season. [3]
