Biographical information[edit]

David Allen was a minor league pitcher who played from 1987 to 1991 in the Philadelphia Phillies (1987-1988) and Houston Astros (1989-1991) farm systems. He also pitched in independent leagues in 1994 and 1995.

He was drafted by the Phillies in the 20th round of the 1987 amateur draft, was signed by scout Dick Lawlor and began his professional career that year. In five relief appearances with the Utica Blue Sox, he went 0-0 with an 0.93 ERA. He made two relief appearances in 1988, both for the Batavia Clippers. That year he posted a 108.00 ERA.

Allen wound up in the Astros organization in 1989. He went 1-2 with a 5.13 ERA in 13 relief appearances for the GCL Astros that season. In 1990, he went 0-1 with a 4.02 ERA in 14 relief appearances for the Auburn Astros, and in 1991 he went 5-7 with a 5.22 ERA in 27 games (18 starts) with the Burlington Astros.

He next played in 1994 for the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the independent Northern League. He appeared in only one game with them, posting an ERA of 18.00. In 1995, he pitched for the Richmond Roosters of the independent Frontier League. In five relief appearances for the Roosters, he posted an 0-2 record and a 12.00 ERA.

Overall, Allen went 6-12 with a 5.57 ERA in his seven-year minor league career.
