David Abarca played in the Mexican Center League and Mexican League from 1972 to 1984.
He debuted in 1972 with the Zacatecas Tuzos (3-6, 4.74) and Jalisco Charros (1-1, 3.45). With Jalisco, he allowed only 33 hits in 47 innings but he walked 34. In 1973, he was 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in nine games for Jalisco and pitched briefly for Zacatecas. He would spend the rest of his career solely in the Mexican League. In '74, he had a 3-1, 3.17 record for the Charros followed by 6-3, 4.21 in 1975.
In 1976, he moved to the Rieleros de Aguascalientes and was 4-4 with a 4.75 ERA. His ERA improved to 4.16 but his record fell to 2-7 in '77. In 1978, he allowed one run in 12 innings for the Rieleros, going 1-0. He set a career high in wins in 1979 at 10-4, 4.33. He had a 9-5, 2.93 record in 1980. The team was a strong 60-33 when a strike ended the season.
Abarca slid to 4-6, 4.64 for Aguascalientes in 1981. He moved to the Piratas de Campeche in 1982 and was 6-6 with a 3.31 ERA for them. Returning to the Rieleros in '83, he was 3-9 with a 4.80 ERA. He wound down with the 1984 Leon Bravos at 0-2, 6.98.
In his Mexican League career, he had gone 50-48 with a 3.96 ERA in 205 games (115 starts), throwing six shutouts. In 820 1/3 IP, he allowed 907 hits and 413 walks while fanning 417.
