Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Dave Trautwein pitched in the minor leagues from 1987 to 1992. He spent a year and some change at Triple-A, but never ascended to the majors.

He was taken by the New York Mets in the 22nd round of the 1987 amateur draft. Perhaps his best campaign was 1989, when he went 6-6 with a 1.65 ERA and 13 saves in 44 games for the Double-A Jackson Mets. In his first season at Triple-A, 1990, he went 1-5 with a 3.80 ERA in 51 games for the Tidewater Tides.

Overall, Trautwein went 17-33 with a 3.89 ERA in 275 games. In 414 2/3 innings, he allowed 435 hits and 156 walks (1.425 WHIP), while striking out 256 batters.

His brother, John Trautwein, pitched for the Boston Red Sox in 1988. His father, Jack Trautwein, played in the minor leagues from 1951 to 1954. His nephew, Michael Trautwein, began his professional career in 2021. He is also related to Jack Dunn, who also began his professional career in 2021.
