Biographical Information[edit]
Dave Moates was an outfielder with the Texas Rangers from 1974 to 1976.
He was at Florida State University at the same time as Stan Thomas and Craig Skok.
In 1975 with the Rangers, Len Randle played second and center field. Moates was in center field almost as often as Randle was. Willie Davis, who was traded in mid-season, was also in center a lot. In 1976, Moates was used even more frequently than in 1975, but split his time between center and right field. He was nine years younger than teammate Gaylord Perry and three years older than teammate Bert Blyleven.
Dave was in the minors between 1969 and 1977, hitting over .300 most of the time. With the Syracuse Chiefs in 1977 he even pitched seven innings, giving up only two runs.
Moates has served two stints as an assistant coach at Manatee Community College. He also coached Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, FL to a state title. He later coached for the IMG Academy.
