Biographical Information

Third baseman Dave Cripe played seven games with the Kansas City Royals. He was a veteran of nine minor league seasons.

After attending the College of William and Mary, where he was also a punter on the school's football team, Cripe transferred to the University of La Verne. After his college days, he signed with the Kansas City Royals and began his career with the Billings Mustangs in 1972. He hit .324 while tying Cleopherus Smith for the Pioneer League lead with 43 RBI. The next summer, he played for the San Jose Bees and hit .310 to lead the California League. Cripe hit .300 and was an American Association All-Star with the Omaha Royals in 1978. That performance earned him a September call-up. In 13 at bats, Dave hit .154 (2-for-13) with an RBI and a run scored.

With George Brett entrenched at third, Cripe never got another shot with Kansas City. He moved on to the Houston Astros organization in 1980, his final year as a player. He later managed in the Astros organization from 1982 to 1986 with a .541 winning percentage.
