Biographical Information[edit]

Dave Coble played 15 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1939, batting .280 in 25 at bats. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps, caught a ball tossed from Philadelphia's City Hall Tower, and held various jobs in baseball after his major league career. When Coble resigned as manager of the Miami Tourists in 1947, he said he had lost 24 pounds worrying about the club and cited ill health as the reason for his resignation. Coble was the business manager of Miami in 1948 and the GM of the Douglas Trojans from 1949-1950. In 1954, he was appointed a scout for the Philadelphia A's.
