Biographical Information[edit]
Darwin dela Calzada has pitched frequently for the Philippines national team. In the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, he teamed with [{Ruel Batuto]] in a no-hitter against Myanmar; the Philippines won Gold. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, he pitched in five of his club's nine games, going 0-3 with a 9.15 ERA, allowing 32 runs (11 unearned) in 20 2/3 innings. He walked 23, gave up 21 hits and fanned 16. He tied Adiel Palma for second in the event in strikeouts, trailing Chien-Fu Yang. On the other hand, he led the Cup in walks, more than the entire Cuban, Dutch or Japanese staves. He next was in the 2006 Asian Games.
Dela Calzada allowed one run in 2/3 inning against Japan in the 2007 Asian Championship and blanked Taiwan for 2/3 of an inning. Against South Korea, he gave up 5 runs on 4 hits in one inning after relieving Jon-Jon Robles. His 19.29 ERA for the tourney was second-worst on the Philippines; he was the only pitcher on any team to appear in each game in the final round. He helped the team win Silver in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games.
Darwin was back with the Filipino club for the 2009 Asian Championship.
