Biographical Information[edit]
Darren Boltman debuted for the South African national team in the 2019 Africa Cup Baseball Championship and put on a show, going 10 for 13 with 5 doubles. He won the award as the event's best batter (teammate Kyle Botha won MVP) as South Africa won the Championship. He led the Cup in average (.102 ahead of runner-up Rowan Ebersohn), OBP (.800, .063 ahead of Kyle Botha), doubles (2 ahead of Bernard Okello and George Drani) and hits (10, tied with Shepherd Sibanda). Despite slugging 1.154, he was only 4th behind Ebersohn, Botha and Sibanda. He was second to Ebersohn in OPS. [1] He split second base at the 2019 Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier with former minor leaguer Brett Willemburg, handling 8 chances error-free and going 2 for 7 with a double. He singled off Shurendy Valeriano for one of their two hits against the Netherlands national team and doubled against Joey Wagman of the Israeli national team. [2]
