Biographical Information

Darin Mastroianni spent 2010 in AA and made his major league debut the following year.

Mastroianni hit .404 as a college junior in 2007 and set school records for steals (58) and hits (91). He was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and led NCAA Division II in steals per game (.9). He became the second All-American in school history, after Kevin Brown, picked by the American Baseball Coaches Association as the first-team second baseman. The Toronto Blue Jays took him in the 16th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Steve Miller and made his pro debut that summer.

Darin hit .287/.391/.409 in his pro debut with the Auburn Doubledays with 50 runs and 20 steals (in 30 tries) in 68 games to help his club win the New York-Penn League title. He slumped to .228/.302/.311 for the 2008 Lansing Lugnuts but was an amazing 30-for-31 in steal attempts.

In 2009, Mastroianni split time between the Dunedin Blue Jays (.325/.426/.390 in 61 G, 55 R, 32 SB in 39 tries) and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (.271/.372/.340 in 70 G, 39 R, 38 SB in 46 tries). Overall, the fleet-footed player led the Blue Jays chain with 94 runs, 76 walks, 70 steals and a .398 OBP. In his first season as a full-time outfielder after moving from second base, he registered 17 assists. Baseball America rated him as having the best strike-zone judgment in the Florida State League. He tied Eric Farris for third in the minors in swipes behind only Anthony Gose and Dee Gordon.

Back with New Hampshire in 2010, Mastroianni hit .301/.390/.398 with 101 runs, 77 walks and 46 steals in 56 tries in 132 games. He also fielded .990 in center.
