As a sophomore, he improved to .319/.357/.462 and a .930 fielding percentage while stealing 21 bases in 29 tries. He led Pitt in steals and was second to Joe Leonard in average.
Danny continued his improvement as a junior in 2009. He hit .323/.403/.431 with 16 stolen bases in 22 attempts and a .935 fielding percentage. His senior season, Lopez batted .349 and stole 24 bases while being thrown out six times. He finished with 71 career steals, 4th-best in Pitt history to that point.
Though he was not one of the six Panthers chosen for All-Big East Conference honors, he was the third Pitt player picked in the 2010 amateur draft after Leonard and Cory Brownsten. Lopez went in the 17th round to the Seattle Mariners. He signed and joined the AZL Mariners. In his pro debut, he went 2 for 3 with two walks and three runs.
