Biographical Information[edit]
Cory Brownsten made his pro debut in 2010. His brother Chris Brownsten also played in the minors.
Brownsten was All-League in both baseball and soccer in high school. He hit .308 as a freshman in junior college, then improved to .390 with 50 RBI and a .615 slugging as a sophomore. He was named his conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Transferring to Pitt, Cory hit .226/.302/.398 while throwing 10 of 38 attempted base-stealers in 2009. As a senior in '10, Brownsten made major strides, batting .395 and fielding .993. He was All-Big East Conference at catcher.
The Atlanta Braves chose Cory in the 15th round of the 2010 amateur draft; he was the second Panther taken after Joe Leonard went in the third round, also to Atlanta. Brownsten made his pro debut on June 23 for the GCL Braves against the GCL Blue Jays, going 2 for 3 with a run.
