Biographical Information[edit]

Dann Howitt played in the major leagues from 1989 to 1994, with the Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox. He never had as many as 100 at-bats in one season, finishing with 242 in 115 games. He was principally a back-up outfielder and first baseman. He was signed by the A's after being drafted in the 18th round of the 1986 amateur draft, out of Cal State-Fullerton.

He hit a grand slam on September 22, 1993 against Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan. This was the 321st and last home run that Ryan gave up in his career, and the tenth grand slam. It was also the last batter Ryan faced to completion, as he had to leave the game during the next at bat (Dave Magadan). For Howitt, it was the fifth and last home run of his career, and his only grand slam.

Howitt's brother, Shaun Howitt, was a minor league outfielder for the Kansas City Royals in 1972 and 1973.
