Daniel Lazo was a two-time home run king in Cuba, but wasn't even the most famous heavyweight player named Lazo on his teams as he was paired with pitching superstar Pedro Luis Lazo. He is the brother of Yosvani Lazo.

Lazo was with Cuba for the 1991 World Junior Championship. At age 20, he debuted with the Cuban national team in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, going 3 for 3 with a double and a home run in an impressive international debut at the senior level; unfortunately, it was also his high point on the tournament stage.

He drove in 63 runs for Pinar del Río to tie Fausto Álvarez for the Cuban Serie Nacional lead in 1993-1994. Daniel went 0 for 5 in the 1995 Pan American Games. He struck out 51 times in 1995-1996 to tie Jorge Salfrán for the league lead. In the 1996 Copa de la Revolución, he led in both home runs (14) and RBI (42).

Lazo hit 18 home runs in the 1998-1999 Serie Nacional to lead the circuit. He played in the 1999 exhibition series against the Baltimore Orioles and was 1 for 6 in the 1999 Pan American Games, his final stint with the national team despite only being 26 years old. Daniel drove in 89 runs in 2001-2002 to lead Cuba for the third time.

Lazo retired after the 2004-2005 season with a .284/~.360/.495 with 223 home runs and 861 RBI in 1,196 games over 15 seasons.
