Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Dan Lamar was taken 20th overall in the 1979 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Atlee Hammaker. He spent seven years in the minor leagues, never playing above Double-A.

He began his career with a .168/.217/.187 line in 34 games for the Billings Mustangs, but rebounded to 372/.460/.465 in 43 at-bats for the Eugene Emeralds the next year. He fell to .211/.269/.298 in 1981 and hit .305/.391/.466 in 1982.

In 1984, his first season with 100 or more games played, Lamar hit .247/.333/.430 with 18 home runs and 60 RBI in 117 games between the Cedar Rapids Reds and Vermont Reds. He batted .375/.446/.664 with 17 home runs and 69 RBI for the Tri-Cities Triplets in 1985, but was considerably older than the average league player.

Overall, Lamar batted .276/.349/.434 with 45 home runs and 221 RBI in 417 games.
