Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Dan Freed was 54-27 with a 2.44 ERA in his professional career, but never pitched above Double-A. He was originally taken by the Montreal Expos in the 17th round of the 1988 amateur draft, the same round as future star Kenny Lofton. He was signed by scout Stan Zielinski.

He was 13-1 with a 0.67 ERA in 15 starts for the Jamestown Expos his first season, 1988, posting a WHIP of 0.808 and completing 9 games. He led the New York-Penn League in wins, ERA, innings pitched (121 1/3), WHIP and BB/9 IP ratio (1.3) and was an All-Star that year. With the Rockford Expos in 1989, he went 13-8 with a 2.29 mark in 26 starts, completing 8 games and shutting out 3; the next year, with the West Palm Beach Expos, he went 12-8 with a 2.00 ERA in 26 games (25 starts). His WHIP rose to 1.287 and he completed just a single game, however. He fell to 11-8, 4.32 in 26 starts for the Harrisburg Senators in 1991 and he split 1992, his final campaign, between the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers systems, going a combined 5-2, 2.70 in 24 games (5 starts) between two Double-A teams.

He later scouted for the Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.
