Collegiate[edit]
Coming from an athletic family (his father, a track athlete, had competed in the Olympic Trials), Dan Blewett was 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA as a college freshman in 2005. He fell to 2-3, 10.43 in 2006 with a .422 opponent average and 17 walks in 14 2/3 innings. In 2007, he started 0-5 with a 5.81 ERA and a .373 average before an injury ended his season. Returning in '08, Blewett was 4-5 with a 5.97 ERA and was second in the America East Conference with 86 innings. One strong point of his college career was his strikeout rate - 8.87 per 9 innings - second in UMBC history to major league-bound Jay Witasick.
Normal CornBelters (Frontier League)[edit]
Blewett was signed by the Normal CornBelters on March 29, 2010.
Dan pitched 5 2/3 innings in his first start for the CornBelters on May 22 against the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field in Evansville, IN. He gave up only 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 2 and walking only 3. Dan did not figure in the decision.
Blewett earned his first win of the season on June 8 against the Windy City ThunderBolts. He threw 7 innings, struck out 9, scattered 7 hits while giving up only 2 runs (one earned), and walked only 1.
On June 28, Dan threw the first complete game shutout in CornBelters history against the Gateway Grizzlies. In a sparkling 1-hit performance, Blewett struck out 13 and walked none. The only hit for the Grizzlies came in the first inning.
Blewett finished the 2010 season with a 6-7 record and a 3.90 ERA with 82 strikeouts and 53 walks, and had only the one complete game.
