Biographical Information

Daiki Tohmei has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

He was 30-11 with a 1.86 ERA and two league MVPs in college. He was undrafted by NPB teams and signed with Fuji Heavy Industries in the industrial leagues. He was on Japan's team that won the 2013 East Asian Games. The Orix Buffaloes took him in the 2nd round of the 2013 NPB draft after taking Kazumasa Yoshida in round one.

He made his pro debut in 2014, going 5-7 with a 3.79 ERA and spending a little time in the minors as well. He, Katsuki Matayoshi and Takuya Toyoda became the first trio of NPB pitchers in 59 years to all record their first career wins on the same day. In 2015, he had a 10-8, 3.35 record. He tied for 7th in the Pacific League in wins, was 7th in ERA (between Ayumu Ishikawa and Hideaki Wakui) and was 9th with 118 K (between Rick van den Hurk and Wakui). It would be his career year as he plummeted to 1-10, 4.94 in 2016. He was limited to three games with the big club in 2017 due to injury and was 1-4 despite a 2.27 ERA in 7 games in 2018. During 2019, he had a 1-1, 7.11 record followed by a 4.91 ERA in two outings in 2020. Overall, he was 18-30 with a 3.97 ERA in 94 NPB games (44 starts), with one shutout.

He threw a fastball (peak 95 mph), slider, forkball, curveball and change-up.
