Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Curtis Gay played in the Cleveland Indians system from 1999 to 2001, never advancing being Single A. He played for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 1999 and 2001 and the Columbus RedStixx in 2000. His batting averages were, in order: .231, .169 and .141. In 1999, he ranked second in the New York-Penn League in strikeouts with 98, behind Brian Martin's 107.

He was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the 1997 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Indians in the 5th round of the 1999 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Mike Thompson.
