Biographical Information[edit]

Coty Woods has been a minor league pitcher.

Woods hit .420 in high school and won 10 games as a pitcher. He went 11-4 with 12 saves and a 3.52 ERA in two years of junior college. In his lone season for Middle Tennessee State, he was 4-3 with a school-record 15 saves and a 1.62 ERA to make All-Sun Belt Conference honors. The Colorado Rockies took Woods in the 33rd round of the 2009 amateur draft; the scout was Scott Corman.

Woods was 2-1 with two saves and a 4.43 ERA in 17 games for the 2009 Casper Ghosts. He split 2010 between the Ghosts (1-0, 3 Sv, 2.19) and Asheville Tourists (0-1, Sv, 2.70), striking out 46 and walking only six in 39 innings combined. He was superb for the 2011 Modesto Nuts (5-4, 12 holds, Sv, 2.19, .215 opponent average, 88 K in 78 IP). He had the third-lowest opponent average by a reliever in the hitter-friendly California League and was 4th in K rate.

Coty remained sharp in 2012 with the Tulsa Drillers (3-2, 16 Sv, 0.76 in 38 G) and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (1-2, 11 Sv, 7.40 in 23 G). He led Rockies farmhands in saves. The Texas Rangers took him in the 2012 Rule V Draft, the 13th pick (between T.J. McFarland and Nate Freiman.
