Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Connor Brogdon received a rough welcome to the major leagues in his debut with the Philadelphia Phillies on August 13, 2020. When he entered the game against the Baltimore Orioles with no one out and two on in the top of he 8th, his first pitch to Pedro Severino was lined into the left field seats for a three-run homer. In the 9th, he gave up a walk to Jose Iglesias and a two-run homer to Rio Ruiz before giving up a single to Andrew Velazquez. By that point, the game had fallen completely out of reach and he was replaced on the mound by IF Neil Walker who recorded the final two outs of the 11-4 loss. In spite of that inauspicious start, he turned out to be one the better relievers for the Phillies down the stretch, as he allowed just 5 hits and 5 walks in 11 1/3 innings while striking out 17 batters and putting up an ERA of 3.97 with 1 win. He followed that with a solid rookie season in 2021, when he made 56 appearances, including one start as an opener, and went 5-4, 3.43 with 1 save. He allowed just 47 hits and 18 walks in 57 2/3 innings, while striking out 50 batters.
