Biographical Information[edit]

Cody Fick made his pro debut in 2011.

Fick was twice All-State in high school. He hit .314 with 10 home runs as a college freshman at Jefferson while posting a 5-0, 2.78 record. He missed 2008 with a medical redshirt. Transferring to Evansville, he hit .307/.369/.526 with 44 runs and 46 RBI in 55 games but allowed 5 runs in 3 1/3 IP as a pitcher. He tied Ben Carlson for 4th in the Missouri Valley Conference in total bases (120) and tied for the MVC lead with 19 doubles. In 2010, he improved to .351/.451/.671 with 19 HR, 50 runs and 65 RBI in 59 games. He led the MVC in home runs and was also among the leaders in slugging (4th), OPS (3rd) and RBI (2nd). He was named the All-Conference third baseman.

In 2011, Cody was a two-way threat for Evansville. He went 7-4 with a 2.36 ERA and also batted .406/.444/.642. He had 21 doubles and 71 RBI in 53 games, though his home run total fell by 10. He was second in the Conference in average (.004 behind Chris O'Brien), 3rd in hits (86), 3rd in slugging, 4th in OPS, 3rd in doubles, 3rd in total bases (136), 1st in RBI (one ahead of O'Brien), first in complete games (5) and tied for first in shutouts (2). He was 15th in NCAA Division I in average and tied Colin Moran for 12th in RBI. He was named All-Conference as a utility man and was named the All-American utility player by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Fick was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round of the 2011 amateur draft; the scout was Nate Dion. With the Williamsport Crosscutters that summer, he went 3-1 with a 3.89 ERA, allowing a .213 average but walking 22 in 37 innings.
