Biographical Information[edit]

In his major league debut for the Cleveland Indians on June 21, 2015, Cody Anderson pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings against the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing just 6 hits and a walk, but the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 9th, when Cleveland scored to register a 1-0 victory. He was just as impressive in his second start, also against the Rays on June 29th, as he took a perfect game into the 7th inning before ending up a 7-1 winner. Grady Sizemore ended his bid for immortality with a solo homer with one out in the 7th; he allowed only one other hit in 8 innings of work. He ended the season very strong as he was named the American League's Pitcher of the Month for September, when he went 5-0, 1.38 with 20 strikeouts in 39 innings. Strangely enough, he was not the league's Rookie of the Month, as that honor went to teammate Francisco Lindor.

Anderson's sophomore season in 2016 was a tough one as he went 2-5, 6.68 in 19 games. He made 9 starts before losing his spot in the starting rotation, but could not right things out of the bullpen. He also shuttled regularly between the American League and AAA in the second half of the year. He was bothered with pain in his elbow late in the year and after the season, underwent an operation. As a result, he was not part of the Indians' ride to the 2016 World Series. He then underwent reconstructive elbow surgery before the start of the 2017 season, forcing him to miss the entirety of that season as well as all of 2018 recovering. In 2019, he made 5 appearances for the Tribe with a 9.35 ERA and became a free agent, signing a minor league deal in February 2020 with the Seattle Mariners.

Anderson had initially been a 17th-round draft choice of the Rays, in 2010 but opted to continue pitching at Feather River College. In 2011, the Indians took him in the 14th round and he signed.
