James Clifton McClanahan

Biographical Information[edit]

Cliff McClanahan was 3-2 with a 0.55 ERA for Team USA in the 1940 Amateur World Series, when they finished behind only Cuba. He was 3rd in ERA, behind 0.00s by Leyman Sinclair and teammate Ken Woelfel. Among the ERA leaders, only Rafael Kinsler had more wins and no one topped his 29 Ks (11 ahead of #2 Kinsler). He served in the Air Force until 1962, retiring as a major; he conducted 25 bombing missions over Germany in World War II and also served in Korea. He later was director of personnel at a hospital in Savannah.
