Biographical Information[edit]

Chuck Rogers pitched in the minor leagues from 1975 to 1980 and from 1982 to 1984. He reached Triple-A by his third season and spent part or all of four seasons at that level while in affiliated ball, but never ascended to the major leagues.

He was originally taken by the New York Mets in the 35th round of the 1972 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Craig Minetto, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 8th round of the 1975 amateur draft, a few picks after future Hall of Famer Lee Smith.

Pitching in the low minors in 1975, Rogers went 8-3 with 8 complete games, 2 shutouts and a 1.32 ERA in 13 starts his first professional season. He moved to Double-A for 1976, going 11-16 with 15 complete games and a 3.77 mark in 28 starts, then in 1977, he went 11-9 with a 4.39 ERA in 28 games (27 starts) for the Wichita Aeros in his first taste of Triple-A. He returned to Wichita in 1978 an 1979, going 10-15 and 5-9, respectively. He pitched in the Cubs and Minnesota Twins systems in 1980, as well as in Mexico, which is where he truly shined. In 26 games (20 starts) for the Plataneros de Tabasco, he went 15-4 with 13 complete games, 6 shutouts, a 1.67 ERA and a 0.868 WHIP. He led the Mexican League in WHIP. He was 16-10 with a 1.66 ERA for them in 1981, finishing 5th in ERA (between John Sutton and Ralph Garcia). He remained with them to go 8-17, 2.97 in 1982, then 13-11 with 18 complete games and a 2.05 ERA in 26 starts in 1983. He slipped to 7-13, 4.58 in 1984 and returned for one more campaign in 1985 to wrap up his career.

In affiliated ball, Rogers went 48-56 with 46 complete games and a 4.05 ERA in 136 games (124 starts). In 858 innings, he allowed 941 hits and 250 walks (1.388 WHIP), while striking out 392 batters. At Triple-A, he went 87-92 with a 3.27 ERA in 214 games (193 starts). Overall, he won 107 games (11 shutouts) and had 111 losses.
