Christian Großmann

Biographical Information[edit]

Christian Großmann played in the Bundesliga and for the German national team.

Großmann hit .435/.500/.696 with five runs and nine RBI in five games in the 1998 European Junior Championship, one of Germany's top performers in the event. [1] In 2000, he made his Bundesliga-1 debut, hitting an impressive .493/.642/.787 with 44 runs and 30 RBI in 26 games, also going 4-0 with a 4.07 ERA for the Mannheim Tornados. In the Bundesliga-1 south, he was 6th in average (between Klaus Hopfensperger and Edward Martinez), 8th in hits (37), 3rd in runs (44), 1st in walks (32), 2nd in OBP (.006 behind an American import) and 9th in OPS. [2]

When the league switched to wood bats in 2001, he did not miss a beat, hitting .363/.496/.593 with 12 doubles, 37 runs and 29 RBI in 28 games and going 5-0 with a 1.29 ERA. He tied for 7th in homers (3), was 5th in RBI, tied for 4th in hits (33), 2nd in runs (11 behind Martinez), tied for 5th in walks, 10th in slugging and tied for 8th in wins. He did not pitch enough to qualify, but would have finished a close second to Michael Otto's 1.24. [3] The next year, he batted .379/.455/.655 but only got into 8 games. [4]

The Darmstadt native was with Germany for the 2003 European Championship, going 2-for-7 with 3 walks, a run and a steal in a backup role; only Olaf Dreesen had a better average for Germany. [5] His last Bundesliga-1 action appears to have been with the 2005 Tornados, going 2-for-8 with a double after a hiatus of three seasons. [6]
