Outfielder Chris Rahl spent his third season in AA in 2009.

Rahl hit .389 with 20 home runs, 8 triples, 73 runs, 70 RBI and 42 steals (in 46 tries) as a sophomore in 2004. He was named an All-American outfielder by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Collegiate Baseball while Baseball America named him second-team behind Brad Corley, Eddy Martinez-Esteve and Danny Putnam. Rahl had finished 4th in NCAA Division I with a .764 slugging percentage, was 7th with 175 total bases, tied for 7th in triples, tied for 11th in home runs and tied for 7th in steals. He was second in the Colonial Athletic Association in average and led the CAA in both homers and triples while finishing two shy of the steal lead. He was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year.

In 2005, Chris had a big junior slump, not making All-Conferenve, let alone All-American.

He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2005 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the Yakima Bears. He hit .269/.318/.407 with 5 triples in 47 games before his season was ended early by a shoulder injury. He did lead all Northwest League outfielders with four double plays.

The next year, he hit .327/.369/.502 with 101 runs, 13 home runs, 83 RBI, and 19 stolen bases in 29 tries for the Lancaster JetHawks, while pacing the California League with a .327 batting average (.001 over Reid Brignac) (as per the 2007 Baseball Almanac; other sources, using a lower plate appearance cut-off, list Luis J. Pérez as the batting champ), 186 hits, 285 total bases and 65 extra-base hits and finishing second in the circuit in doubles (44, one behind leader Chris Nowak). He also led all Diamondbacks minor leaguers in hits, total bases and doubles. He was named to the league All-Star team as an outfielder. In addition, he led all of the affiliated minors in hits, was third in total bases (behind Sean Rodriguez and Alex Gordon) and was tied for 4th in doubles, two behind Seth Smith and Joey Votto and one behind Nowak.

He was with the Mobile Bay Bears in 2007 and went 5-for-6 with a double and 3 runs scored on the season's final day to end the season with a .259/.286/.398 batting line, 15 steals in 20 tries, and 51 RBI, a far drop-off from 2007.

Rahl was back at AA Mobile in 2008 and started the season hitless in his first ten games. Overall, his average dropped that season to .215 (with a .264 OBP and .328 slugging percentage), and he declined to 6 home runs and 25 RBI. He struck out in 115 of 432 AB. He stole 18 bases but was thrown out running 12 times.

He spent a third season with the Bay Bears in 2009, and he raised his average to .280 with a .333 OBP and .407 slugging percentage while hitting 5 homers, scoring 72 runs, and stealing 20 bases in 27 attempts.
