Chris Jefts has been a minor league pitcher, college coach and scout.
Jefts was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 7th round of the 1984 amateur draft out of high school. He was 6-1 with a 2.20 ERA that summer for the GCL White Sox. He tied for fifth in the Gulf Coast League in wins and was 5th with 63 strikeouts. With the Appleton Foxes a year later, he faded to 6-6, 4.01. In his final season, 1986, he posted a record of 9-13, 4.92 for the Peninsula White Sox. He led the Carolina League in losses, tied for second in starts (29), was third in innings (184 2/3, behind Marty Reed and Jose Melendez), led in hits allowed (207, 24 more than runner-up Jeff Richardson), led in runs allowed (114), led in earned runs surrendered (101), tied for 10th in walks (77) and tied for 6th in wild pitches (16). He led the White Sox chain in hits and earned runs allowed. Overall, he had gone 21-20 with a 4.04 ERA in 57 minor league games, all but four of them starts. He allowed 367 hits and 123 walks in 337 1/3 innings while striking out 209.
From 1991-1995, Jefts was an assistant coach at the University of Georgia. He then scouted for the Cleveland Indians for 10 years, signing Ryan Mulhern. He later returned to the University of Georgia to work as a fundraiser.
