Biographical Information[edit]
Chris Holba has pitched in the minors and has been on the German national team.
Holba was born in Germany while his father was stationed there as a US Air Force Colonel. Playing for Ramstein Air Force Base, his team made the 2009 Little League World Series and he hit a grand slam in a 14-13 loss to Vancouver, BC. [1]
He was 6-0 with a 1.28 ERA as a high school junior and 8-2, 0.67 as a senior. [2] He struggled as a college freshman (3-1, Sv, 6.23) but was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod League. [3] He improved to 4-2 with a save and a 3.38 ERA as a sophomore then went 0-2 with a 4.90 ERA for Bourne. His junior year, he was 9-1 with a 2.99 ERA. He made first-team All-American Athletic Conference. [4]
The St. Louis Cardinals took him in the 11th round of the 2018 amateur draft. His pro debut was with the State College Spikes and he was 3-3 with a 5.05 ERA, walking only 11 in 46 1/3 IP. He missed 2019 due to injury, 2020 when the minor league season was shut down due to COVID-19 and 2021 due to injury. [5] He only pitched in eight games in 2022, five with the Palm Beach Cardinals (5 R, 4 ER in 5 IP) and three for the FCL Cardinals (3 shutout innings).
Named to Germany's roster for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifier, he did not appear in the tournament. [6]
