Biographical Information[edit]
Chris Ciatti played in the independent leagues and for the Croatian national team.
He hit .268/.333/.392 for Dakota Wesleyan University in 2011-2012. [1] He played for the Taos Blizzard in 2013, batting .161/.307/.161 in 23 games. In 17 games behind the plate, he had 14 passed balls and caught 9% of would-be base-stealers. He played for the Ulm Falcons in the German minor leagues in 2014. [2]
Ciatti moved to the Bad Homburg Hornets in Germany's Bundesliga-1 in 2015. He went 0 for 3 against Regensburg's Wolfgang Reitter and Lucas Dickman in his debut but got two hits against former minor leaguer Mike Bolsenbroek the next game. [3] He hit .260/.300/.356 for the year, handling 75 chances error-free at catcher and 57 error-free chances at 1B while playing briefly at 3B. Only Christopher Howard had more error-free chances at catcher that year in the southern Bundesliga-1. [4]
He fell to .218/.284/.253 in 2016, fielding .952 while playing at least five games at 1B, 3B, C and 2B. [5] He moved to Zagreb in Croatia in 2017. [6] In '18, he went 5 for 19 with 5 walks, two doubles, a homer, eight runs and four RBI in five Euro Interleague games. [7]
Chris was a player-coach for Croatia in the 2019 European Championship, apparently having obtained Croatian citizenship by then. He hit 6th and played DH in their opener against Spain, striking out against Jorge Balboa his first time up. The next game, he got his first hit for Croatia, off former AAA hurler Murilo Gouvêa (pitching for Italy. He finished the event at .238/.238/.286 with two runs and two RBI in eight games, playing regularly at DH. [8]
