Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chris Bushing briefly played in the majors with the Cincinnati Reds in 1993.

After going 10-1 as a senior at South Broward High School, Bushing attended Broward Community College for one semester. He was signed by the Baltimore Orioles in 1986. He played two summers in their organization with the Bluefield Orioles but was released in spring 1988. After one year away from baseball, he was with the unaffiliated Peninsula Pilots in 1989, going just 2-7 but striking out 99 in 99 2/3 innings of work. He was signed by the Montreal Expos in 1990 and recorded 12 saves for the Rockford Expos that summer.

Following two years in the Expos chain, Bushing moved on to the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Late in the 1992 season, he was dealt to the Cincinnati Reds for Nick Capra. He spent most of 1993 with the Chattanooga Lookouts and led the Southern League with 29 saves. This performance earned him a September call-up to Cincinnati. He made his big league debut on September 3rd against the Phillies, giving up a home run to Darren Daulton, the first batter he faced. Overall, in 6 relief outings for the Reds, he posted a 12.46 ERA.

After his brief taste of major league ball, Bushing was let go by Cincinnati. He was signed by the Chicago White Sox in early 1994 and made just 9 appearances for the Nashville Sounds that year. He appeared in 3 games for the Oklahoma City 89ers in the Texas Rangers system in 1995, his final year of pro ball.
