Biographical Information[edit]

Chih-Yuan Lai pitched in the CPBL. His father is former CPBL pitcher Yu-Liang Lai.

Lai played for the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League in 2016. He also represented Taiwan in the 2016 U-23 Baseball World Cup and 2018 World University Championship. The Lamigo Monkeys drafted him in the fourth round of the 2018 CPBL Draft, and he had a 7.20 ERA in 21 appearances in 2019. He only played 2 games with the big club in 2020, and his ERA was 7.36 in 23 games in the minors. After staying in the minor league for the entire 2021 season, Lai was released by the Monkeys.

The Fubon Guardians then picked him up, and he became an important part of their bullpen in 2022. His ERA was solid 1.35 in 40 relief outings in 2022, but he then slumped to a 4.42 ERA in 22 games in 2023.

Lai's repertoire includes a fastball (peak 94.4 mph), sinker and slider.
