Biographical Information[edit]
Chi-En Tseng was a long-time manager in Taiwan and part of the first class of the Taiwan Baseball Hall of Fame.
Tseng was a maintenance technician in the Taiwan Air Force and pitched for their baseball team; he later managed the team. He coached for the Taiwanese national team in the 1969 Asian Championship (winning their first Silver Medal in 14 years) and 1971 Asian Championship. He managed Taiwan in the 1972 Amateur World Series (their first Amateur World Series), 1973 Intercontinental Cup, 1983 World Junior Championship (Taiwan won their first World Junior Championship) and 1986 Amateur World Series (their first Bronze in an Amateur World Series).
He managed the Brother Hotels amateur team from 1984-1989. When the Chinese Professional Baseball League formed, he was the first manager of the Brother Elephants. The team was 34-49-4 in 1990 and 38-49-3 in 1991. He remained active with them as vice manager through 2011, a year before his death from a stroke. He was posthumously inducted into the Taiwan Baseball Hall of Fame's first class of 2014.
