Biographical Information

Chen-Wei Chen has played in the CPBL. His cousin Chia-Chu Chen played in the US minors.

Chen-Wei Chen played short for the Taiwanese team that finished third in the 2010 Little League World Series. He had three hits in the 3rd/4th place game win over Pearland, TX. After college, the Lamigo Monkeys took him in the 2nd round of the 2018 CPBL Draft after going for pitcher Wei-Chun Weng in round one. He was 1 for 11 in the 2018 CPBL. He played in the Asia Winter League.

The Kaohsiung native hit .300/.362/.426 with 11 triples in the 2019 CPBL, stealing 22 bases in 29 tries. He played both outfield (.971, 51 G) and SS (.931, 36 G). He hit two triples back-to-back July 24. He easily led the league in triples, five ahead of Che-Hsuan Lin, and was second in stolen bases, five behind Wei-Chen Wang. He was timed as fast on the bases as Dee Gordon. He scored four runs in the finale of the 2019 Taiwan Series, won by Lamigo. He won CPBL Rookie of the Year.

Chen led the league in stolen bases in 2020 with 42, 16 ahead Tsung-Hsien Lee. He was the youngest player to reach 40 steals in CPBL history. However, he only hit .284/.331/.394 with a 77 OPS+, an average performance for a center fielder. Injuries limited Chen to only played 75 games in 2021.He bounced back in 2022, hit .327/.380/.428 with 13 triples and 38 stolen bases, both led the league. He was selected into the 2022 CPBL All-Star Game, but he went 0-for-9. In the 2022 Taiwan Series, Chen hit .375/.375/.438, but the Monkeys were swept by the CTBC Brothers. Chen also won his first Best Ten award in this year.

The speedy outfielder made Taiwan's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He hit an infield single against Wilfredo Pereira of Panama after he pinch-hit for Po-Jung Wang, then Justin Lawrence retired him the next time up. Chen then replaced Tzu-Wei Lin as the right fielder against Italy, and Joey Marciano retired him. Chen recorded a .254/.318/.252 batting line in 2023, and he led the league in steals, going 22-for-29. He was one swipe ahead of Hsiao-Cheng Lin in leading the league for the third time in four years.
