Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chase Petty was selected with the 26th pick of the 1st round of the 2021 amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins out of a high school in New Jersey. He only played briefly in the Twins' system, making two appearances - one as a starter and one as a reliever - with the FCL Twins in 2021. He gave up 3 runs in 5 innings.

On March 13, 2022, he was involved in a high-profile trade, going to the Cincinnati Reds with fellow pitcher Francis Peguero in return for established starter Sonny Gray. He split that season between the Daytona Tortugas of the Florida State League and the Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League, making 20 starts in 25 appearances and going 1-6, 3.66. He pitched just 98 1/3 innings, as the Reds were careful about his usage, but still racked up 96 strikeouts. In 2023, he had a dominant half-season with Dayton after missing all of April with an injury, going 0-2, 1.95 in 16 starts, with 61 strikeouts in 60 innings, before getting a promotion to the AA Chattanooga Lookouts at the end of August. He pitched twice more there, with no record and no earned runs allowed in 8 innings. After the season, he was named a High-A All-Star by Baseball America.
