Biographical Information[edit]
Charlie Powell was involved in multiple sports - baseball, football and boxing.
He played baseball professionally in 1952 for the Stockton Ports, hitting .167 in 30 at-bats. It was in football where he made his name, however, as he was a defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders from 1952 to 1961, missing a few years in-between. He was the youngest player in NFL history at only 19 years old. As a boxer, he was 25-11-3 in his career, which spanned from 1953 to 1964. He even faced off against Cassius Clay (before he was Muhammad Ali) and Floyd Patterson.
His brother, Art Powell, was a 4-time Pro Bowler in the NFL.
