Biographical Information[edit]

Charlie Mullen was player-manager for the Lincoln Greenbackers in 1913 and the Lincoln Tigers for the first part of the 1914 season, which he finished as the starting first baseman for the New York Yankees. On July 14th that year, he had the Yankees' lone hit in a six-inning win over the Cleveland Naps in the second game of a doubleheader. The Yankees would not win another game in which they were limited to one hit for over a century, the next instance coming on May 29, 2016 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Mullen took over as manager of the Seattle Rainiers in the middle of the 1919 season. The team finished 24-38 under his direction but remained in 8th place in the Pacific Coast League. Bill Clymer had managed the team in the first part of the season. Under Clymer, the team won 38 games and lost 70 games. In 1921, he managed the Tacoma Tigers to a 63-53 record, good for second place in the Pacific Coast International League.

He was a high school teammate of Charlie Schmutz and Ten Million at Seattle High School.
