Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Charlie Manning was drafted three times. In 1999, the Boston Red Sox drafted him in the 16th round out of Polk Community College, but Manning instead decided to transfer to the University of Tampa and continue his college career. After the 2000 season the Seattle Mariners drafted him in the 9th round (266th overall) but he once again opted to stay in school. Finally after his senior year, the New York Yankees drafted Manning in the 9th round (275th overall).

Manning quickly rose through the Yankees system and was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Aaron Boone. After two years he was sent back to the Yankees for pitcher Gabe White. In 2006 he made the Eastern League All-Star team. He split 2007 between the Trenton Thunder and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, going 4-2, 3.69 with 3 saves. he moved to the Washington Nationals organization after the season and made his Major League debut with that team on May 24 2008. He had gone 19 games with a 1.95 ERA and 6 saves for the Columbus Clippers prior to getting the call. He was a regular in the Nats' bullpen for the remainder of the campaign, making 57 appearances overall. It ended up being his lone big league season, however, as he spent all of 2009 in Triple-A (posting a 3.94 ERA in 44 games), then missed all of 2010. He joined the independent Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in 2011 and remained with them through the end of his career in 2014.
