Charlie Ferguson was a star pitcher in the American Association from 1902 to 1905 as a member of the St. Paul Saints. He played only one game in the National League, with the Chicago Orphans in 1901, but he served a full season as an American League umpire in 1913, in addition to one game in 1914.
He was killed in an accidental drowning incident in Whitefish Bay in Lake Superior. He is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lansing, MI.
