Biographical Information[edit]
Colorado native Charlie Barnabe spent seventeen active seasons in professional baseball from 1920 to 1938. He pitched a full season in the major leagues with the Chicago White Sox in 1927 and one month with the club in 1928. The left-hander made 24 appearances during his stay in the big leagues and finished with an 0-7 record and a 5.48 ERA.
Charlie's fifteen active seasons in the minor leagues saw him appear with twelve teams in six leagues with ten double-digit winning seasons. In two seasons, he hit the coveted 20-win mark or better. His first was a 22-12 season in 1925 with the Evansville Pocketeers of the Class B Three-I League and his second was with the Little Rock Travelers of the Class A Southern Association with a 20-13 record in 1932. Barnabe ended his minor league career in 1938 managing the Big Spring Barons of the West Texas-New Mexico League to a 58-71 record. He concluded his minor league pitching career with a 173-116 record in 324 games.
Barnabe died August 16, 1977 at a hospital in Waco, TX, and is interred at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco. He was 77.
