Charles Urbanus Sr. was a top Dutch baseball player who was overshadowed by his brother Han Urbanus and his namesake and nephew, Charles Urbanus Jr.. His nephew Johan Urbanus had a brief career. Great-nephew Nick Urbanus also went into baseball.
Urbanus helped OVVO win six titles during his playing career and also spent 12 years with the Dutch national team. From 1965-1976, he coached for the national team (head coach when they won the 1969 European Championship) and he coached for 19 seasons overall. In 1968, he was the first person to win the Dutch Coach of the Year award. After Urbanus died, HCAW began a baseball tournament named in his memory.
