Biographical Information[edit]

Charles Pérez was on the Cuban national team.

He was with the Cienfuegos Athletic Club from 1938-1945, leading Cuba's amateur league in triples (7) and steals (29) in 1944. [1] He hit .270 for Cuba when they finished second in the 1941 Amateur World Series. [2] In the 1942 Amateur World Series, he batted .288 with a tourney-best 20 runs and four steals and Cuba won the title. He tied Francisco Quicutis and Antonio Valdés for the home run lead (2) and Pedro Echevarría for the triple lead (1). [3] He was at .297 in the 1944 Amateur World Series; Cuba withdrew early due to complaints about biased umpiring but was still given the Bronze. [4]

He played briefly as a pro outside of Cuba, hitting .269/.333/.308 in 14 games for the 1946 Tuneros de San Luis. [5] His ecured bio says he played for Almendares; he is likely then the Charles Pérez who went 3-for-20 for that team in the 1947-1948 Cuban Winter League. [6] It is not 100% clear as there was a contemporary Cuban outfielder Carlos "Charles" Pérez.
